For the years when gray hairs expose your need to be carried.

“Listen to me, house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, that have been carried from their birth, that have been carried from the womb. Even to old age I am he, and even to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear. Yes, I will carry, and will deliver.
Isaiah 46:3–4

The promise reaches the years of gray hair. What do you expect those years to prove about God: that he has carried you, or that he has finally left you to carry yourself?

Your condition is not merely age. It is the fear that being made by God does not mean being borne by him. You reach for self-sufficiency, treating control as a stronger carrier than the God who made you. You grip each doorway as though the porter will drop you.

Yet the Maker named in the promise has not remained distant from human weakness. In Christ, the Son entered the womb, took flesh, bore your sin at the cross, and rose to deliver you. The risen Christ now intercedes for you. He does not promise an untouched old age; he gives you himself through every loss and frailty.

Gray hairs do not mark God’s retreat; they reveal the reach of his carrying. Will you release the doorframe of self-sufficiency and entrust today’s weakness to the risen Christ?

Gray hairs do not mark God’s retreat; they reveal the reach of his carrying.
Prayer

Father, forgive my refusal to be carried; fix my eyes on the incarnate, crucified, risen Christ, and teach me to receive today’s weakness as held by your mercy. Amen.
