For the season when the gift has been spent and the finish is near.

For I am already being offered, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith. From now on, the crown of righteousness is stored up for me, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day; and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved his appearing.
2 Timothy 4:6–8

The condition is not merely tiredness. It is the ache of having spent what you had—years, attention, bodily strength, perhaps the last reserves of courage—and now sensing that departure is nearer than another season of repair. There may be grief in admitting this, and even fear that an offered life has become an exhausted one. Nothing in that fear requires shame; the apostolic witness begins by naming the pouring out plainly.

Picture the cup tipped toward the ground, its contents no longer held back, while the course lies behind you rather than ahead. The words are neither a boast of flawless effort nor a denial of cost: the fight was good, the course was finished, and faith was kept. Completion can feel strangely quiet. There is no need to manufacture strength for one more lap when the body and years are telling the truth.

Jesus says that those who have loved his appearing are included in the promised crown; the Father calls you one of the many for whom righteousness is stored up, not because aging made you impressive, but because Christ is righteous and gives what he has secured. Your life is received at the end by the Lord who judges justly. His cross bears the guilt that clings to your failures, and his resurrection makes the final horizon more than an empty stop. A poured-out life is not a wasted life when Christ receives its faithfulness.

A poured-out life is not a wasted life when Christ receives its faithfulness.
Prayer

Lord Jesus, I release the need to prove that I have more to give. Receive my finished work and unfinished regrets. Keep my faith in your mercy, and carry me toward the day of your appearing. Amen.
