Today • Stillness before the God who is with us

“Be still” reaches you where your vigilance has become a false refuge. What are you trying to secure by rehearsing every possible failure? You keep your hand over the emergency switch, convinced that constant readiness can preserve what God alone governs. You may call this responsibility. The psalm exposes it as refusal to know God as God. His exaltation does not depend on your alertness.

The God who is with his people is not an idea you must stabilize by force. He is your refuge while nations rage and the earth shakes. Stillness does not mean pretending danger is absent. It means stopping your frantic claim to be its final manager. Stillness is not your achievement; it is surrender before the God who is with you.

In Christ, God’s nearness has taken flesh. Jesus entered the reach of death, bore sin at the cross, and rose again. The risen Christ gives his indwelling Spirit, so you do not face God’s command from a distance. His presence meets you beneath the emergency switch. Lower your hand, confess your need, and know the God who remains with you.

Lord Jesus, quiet my grasping heart and teach me to rest in your presence.
