A word for the weary standing at the crossroads

Yahweh says, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, ‘Where is the good way?’ and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
Jeremiah 6:16

You stand at the fork again, scanning the horizon for a route no one has tried. "Stand in the ways and see," Yahweh says, but you are not standing; you are shopping, comparing trails, sure that rest lies somewhere off the map, on a path of your own design.

The false refuge is the new path — the optimized schedule, the perfected boundary, the technique that will finally make rest efficient. You have said it quietly, in the language of your own exhaustion: "We will not walk in it." The old way feels too slow, too plain, too much like surrender.

But the old path has a face. Christ walked it first, through the flesh, to the cross, and out the other side of the grave. The road is worn smooth by his feet, and rest is not a reward for walking well; it is the company of the One who already carried the weight. The old path is not a method; it is the Person who walked it first.

Will you stop surveying and set your foot where his already is?

The old path is not a method; it is the Person who walked it first.
Prayer

Lord, give me the humility to walk where you walked.
