When confusion aches, the sanctuary is the turning point.
Behold, these are the wicked. Being always at ease, they increase in riches. Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocence, For all day long I have been plagued, and punished every morning. If I had said, “I will speak thus”; behold, I would have betrayed the generation of your children. When I tried to understand this, it was too painful for me, until I entered God’s sanctuary, and considered their latter end.
"When I tried to understand this, it was too painful for me." Have you tried to understand the ease of the wicked until your mind ached? You have washed your hands in innocence, yet every morning you feel plagued. The false refuge is the verdict: "Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain." You conclude that purity is a waste.
That verdict betrays the generation of God's children. It turns your confusion into a weapon against the faithful. But the psalmist does not stay in the pain. He enters God's sanctuary. There he considers their latter end. The sanctuary is not a place of answers; it is a place of reoriented sight.
Christ entered the true sanctuary, carrying your confusion to the cross. He took the latter end of the wicked upon Himself, so your present plague is not a sign of futility. His resurrection is the first light of that latter end you cannot yet see. He intercedes for you now.
The threshold is before you. Will you step from the street of comparison into the sanctuary of His presence?
The sanctuary is not a place of answers; it is a place of reoriented sight.
Lord, lead me across the threshold into Your sanctuary.
