For the worshiper who doubts before being sent

On Galilee's mountain, worship and doubt occupy the same gathering: disciples bow before Jesus, yet some remain uncertain. The scene refuses a polished faith. Their bowed heads do not erase their unsettled hearts, and their doubt does not prevent Jesus from coming near. Before any commission is given, Scripture lets both realities stand in the open. Christ's authority holds worshipers who doubt and sends them without requiring a polished faith. The mountain holds the whole company before the sending.

Their uncertainty is not answered by a demand to manufacture confidence. Jesus speaks of authority already given to him in heaven and on earth, then sends these very disciples to make disciples of all nations, baptizing and teaching them to observe his commands. I confess that I often want inward certainty before outward obedience, as though the commission depended on the strength of my worship. But the order of this scene rests on Christ's authority, not the disciples' emotional steadiness.

The authority behind their going belongs to the crucified and risen Lord. The cross explains why doubtful worshipers may serve without pretending: their standing comes through Christ's finished atonement, and his resurrection confirms that heaven and earth answer to him. His promise to be with them always, to the end of the age, makes presence—not self-confidence—the provision for the commission.
