For those who have given long enough to feel the cost

I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread. All day long he deals graciously, and lends. His offspring is blessed.
Psalm 37:25–26

All day long he deals graciously, and lends. Can a human life actually hold that rhythm from morning to evening, from youth to old age? The psalmist has been young and is now old, and he has not seen the righteous forsaken. He has watched the unbroken habit of an open hand.

The fear that ruins such generosity is quieter than you expect. It whispers that your surplus will run out, that if you do not build a fortress around your storehouse, your children will one day beg for bread. So your hand learns to close, and giving becomes a transaction with a grim face.

But Christ did not guard His life. He dealt graciously all the way to the cross, and the Father raised Him to show that an open hand is never finally forsaken. The risen Christ dwells in you, not to remove all scarcity, but to make you a lender even in it, day by day, year after year.

What would you need to release tonight so that, when you are old, you are still found lending?

an open hand is never finally forsaken
Prayer

Lord, keep my hand open in the years You give, and let my old age still be lending.
