For a season when a low balance tempts you to call more your safety.

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly can’t carry anything out. But having food and clothing, we will be content with that. But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation, a snare, and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
1 Timothy 6:6–10

The verse places godliness beside contentment and calls that union great gain. Do you believe that when your balance is low, your plans feel exposed, and more money appears to promise relief? Contentment is not approval of deprivation. It is the refusal to measure gain by what can be stored, carried, or displayed.

The danger is a heart determined to be rich, even when the amount looks modest to others. You may use a larger balance as a refuge, asking it to quiet fear and grant worth. That is the love of money: not careful provision, but trust fastening itself to a thing you cannot carry out. Your balance cannot become the shelter your soul needs. Money promises shelter, then tightens like a glittering snare.

Christ took flesh and went to the cross for sinners whose desires bend toward money. In his resurrection, he secures a life no account can purchase and no loss can finally destroy. He does not shame you for needing food and clothing. He calls you from greed’s false refuge to receive daily provision with open hands. What are you asking your balance to do that only the risen Christ can do?

Your balance cannot become the shelter your soul needs.
Prayer

Risen Christ, expose my false refuge, forgive my greedy trust, and teach me to receive food and clothing as gifts while resting my worth in you. Amen.
