A season of telling the truth without returning the wound.
Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for am I in the place of God? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to save many people alive, as is happening today. Now therefore don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your little ones.” He comforted them, and spoke kindly to them.
“Am I in the place of God?” Joseph’s question reaches your hidden verdict. You know what was intended against you, yet you keep rehearsing the offender’s ruin as if vengeance could restore what was taken. That is your false refuge: the judge’s seat. It promises control while keeping the harm at the center of your life.
Joseph did not rename evil as kindness. He said plainly that his brothers meant evil. God’s good purpose did not make their intention innocent. Truth can name the evil without taking the judge’s seat. You may speak accurately about what happened, seek protection, and refuse retaliation. God’s providence is not permission to distort the record.
In Christ, the cross bears the judgment you are tempted to seize, and the resurrection declares that evil will not have the final word. This grace does not require you to predict how God will repair the damage. It frees you to leave judgment with God while choosing no harm against the guilty. Like Joseph providing for vulnerable lives, let Christ’s mercy govern your next act. Will you name the evil and leave the bench?
Truth can name the evil without taking the judge’s seat.
Lord Jesus, keep me truthful about the harm and merciful without becoming its avenger.
