For the season of mourning: blessing now, comfort to come.

"Blessed are those who mourn." Is that word spoken over your mourning, or only over the mourning that has already ended?

You have learned to perform the recovery. You smile at the right moments, speak of God's goodness, and call it faith. But the mask of having moved on is a false refuge — it only hides you from the comfort you need.

Jesus pronounces the blessing in the present tense, over a face still wet with tears. The comfort is future; the blessing is now. The blessing does not wait for the tears to stop. The one who speaks it wept at a grave and then walked out of his own. His resurrection is the Father's promise in flesh: the comfort will come, because death has already been undone.
