For the season when your inner life feels sealed shut.

Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost. We are completely cut off.’ Therefore prophesy, and tell them, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Behold, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, my people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel. You will know that I am Yahweh, when I have opened your graves, and caused you to come up out of your graves, my people. I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live. Then I will place you in your own land; and you will know that I, Yahweh, have spoken it and performed it,” says Yahweh.’ ”

When your bones are dried up and your hope is lost, what verdict have you accepted as final? The question exposes more than sadness. You have begun to treat burial as identity and silence as proof that God has cut you off.

Your specific refuge may be lowered expectations. If you expect nothing, disappointment cannot reach you. But that shelter is a locked ribcage. It preserves your conclusion while leaving you unable to receive life. The passage does not tell you to deny the bones. It confronts your claim that they are the whole story.

The Lord’s answer is not advice for becoming hopeful. He opens graves, brings his people up, and puts his Spirit within them so they live. In Christ, resurrection has entered history. Jesus passed through death and rose bodily. His Spirit now indwells those joined to him. The Spirit gives hope where your verdict can see only bones.

Stop defending the grave as your identity. Bring your “cut off” verdict to the risen Christ and ask him to make you alive by his Spirit—will you keep naming the bones, or will you receive life from him?
