The Spirit's wind does not wait for you to feel ready.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13

There is a particular exhaustion that comes from trying to talk yourself into hope. You review the same facts and brace your shoulders, and still the feeling will not come. It is not weakness. It is the strain of expecting your own mind to generate what it was never designed to manufacture.

Paul's blessing points elsewhere. The God of hope does not hand you a task list; he fills. The grammar of the blessing is generous: you are the object, the one being filled. Joy and peace arrive in believing, which is less a clenched effort than an open hand turned toward Christ. And the power that makes hope abound is not your optimism but the Holy Spirit's own breath, the same wind that moved over the waters at creation and moved the disciples out of the upper room.

So the Father calls you a sail, not a weather machine. You do not produce the wind; you are made to receive it. Jesus has already risen, and the Spirit is already given, which means the supply of hope is not dependent on your capacity to feel it. You may be dry today, but the God of hope is still the God of hope.

You do not produce the wind; you are made to receive it.
Prayer

Spirit of Christ, when I cannot talk myself into hope, fill me as you will, and let me be simply the vessel you have made. Amen.
