For the season when hidden wounds refuse to close
He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
He binds up their wounds. So why are you binding your own heart alone? Your refuge is self-management: you keep the wound tight and call it fine. The break is hidden and kept out of reach.
But a hidden wound is still a wound. It festers and tightens under the neat covering. Your false refuge is self-sufficiency: you never let the healer near the broken place. That is not binding; it is hiding.
Christ did not bind from a distance. He took flesh that could be torn. On the cross he entered the break itself; in the resurrection he still carries the wounds. He binds the broken heart with a hand that carries a wound. He does not promise a painless binding. He binds the wound itself.
Set down the careful dressing now. Bring the heart you have hidden and lay it in the hand that was wounded. Will you let him bind the wound you have kept unbound?
He binds the broken heart with a hand that carries a wound.
Lord, bind the hidden wound in your wounded hand.
