For the season when the ash heap feels permanent.

The ash heap is a familiar seat: the gray residue of a month that ends in nothing, the fine dust of hopes worn down by waiting. This is the interior landscape, low and quiet. No shame in naming it; Scripture names it openly.

Psalm 113 sketches the scene. Yahweh has his seat on high, yet he stoops down to see, not a glance from a distance but a deliberate lowering of the divine eye toward the earth, to the heap where you sit. He raises the poor out of the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap. It is not your climbing that saves you; it is the bending of His throne. The goal is not merely standing, but being set 'with princes,' a seat among God's honored.

The same God 'settles the barren woman in her home.' The word echoes: settled, placed. You are given room. Jesus says, 'Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.' That kingdom has already stooped to claim you. While you wait for what your body has not given, Christ is your place. The home He gives may look different than you imagined—a family of the Spirit, a community of the church, a heart slowly made spacious—but He is the one who settles you. You are not overlooked; you are being set.
