The anointing finds you in the field.

You know the particular ache of being the one left with the sheep: the one who hears about the meeting later, who watches the car pull away toward the altar while everyone else is summoned inside.

The prophet has arrived. The whole household is called, all the sons lined up like prized rams. And David is not there. He is out in the field, keeping the sheep, the most forgettable job on the estate. The sun is hot on his neck, the wool greasy under his hand, the bleating constant. He is not sulking; he is simply not on the list. And yet the text holds its breath: 'Send and get him.' The word 'get' is a small mercy. God sends for what he sees.

Jesus says you are not the sum of your job title or the silence of your inbox. The Father calls you by name before you have produced a thing. The Spirit's anointing does not wait for the room to notice you. The anointing that fell on David is a shadow of the One anointed in the Jordan, the Spirit descending like a dove, the Father's voice naming him Beloved before he had done a single miracle. The field where you are unseen is the place God is watching you.
