For the unemployed person placing the next plan before the Lord.

Entrusting the next plan to the Lord is difficult precisely because a job loss makes planning feel like survival. At the drafting board, we want to press hard enough that the pencil cannot slip: choose the right training, send the right applications, secure the right outcome. Proverbs 16:3 begins lower than our anxiety. It addresses deeds, the actual work placed before Yahweh, before it speaks of plans. That order diagnoses us: we can use a plan to disguise control, treating faithful action as a means to force success.

I confess that I often want the Lord to bless my blueprint without receiving authority over its destination. Yet the verse does not present commitment as a charm that guarantees my preferred result. To commit the deeds is to place the work, motives, applications, and waiting under Yahweh’s judgment; then “your plans shall succeed” is heard within his rule, not against it. A plan placed before the Lord is no longer treated as sovereign. The next plan is safest when its success is defined by the Lord who receives it.

That surrender is not bare resignation. At the cross, Jesus bore the judgment our grasping deserves; in his resurrection, he secured the living hope that our future rests in him rather than in our ability to engineer it. Therefore, when the next plan changes, Christ does not become less faithful. His grace receives the deeds we can offer, freeing us from making success our savior.
