A devotional for the fear that something can finally separate you from God’s love.

“Neither death nor life” presses a question into your fear: Which created thing have you quietly promoted into a power able to separate you from God’s love? The condition is deeper than a passing worry. You suspect that loss, failure, or rejection can place you beyond his reach. You read the apostle’s persuasion while your heart keeps drafting exceptions.

Control becomes your false refuge. You examine every threat as if carefulness could keep love attached to you. Fear acts like a locksmith, testing one key after another against the door of your security. But the verse leaves no hidden entrance for despair. Things present and things to come do not become sovereign because you cannot predict them.

God’s love is “in Christ Jesus our Lord.” At the cross, Jesus bore the judgment your sin deserves. In the resurrection, death could not hold him. Therefore no power, height, depth, or any other created thing can sever you from the love secured in him. Your fear is a created thing, not a separating power. Will you stop asking control to certify what Christ has already secured?

Lord Jesus, expose my refuge in control and anchor me in the love of God that is yours, even when fear remains.
