For fathers learning to call their children toward a worthy walk.

“As a father does his own children” places exhortation inside belonging. Do you speak to your child as one entrusted to you, or as a project that must validate your authority? The verse joins exhorting, comforting, and imploring. A worthy walk is summoned through relationship, not mere pressure.

Your condition may be more anxious than loving. You may call for holiness because your child’s visible obedience feels like proof that you are a good father. That is a false refuge. It turns the child’s walk into a mirror, and every stumble darkens your face. Fatherly exhortation then becomes control wearing religious clothing.

Christ does not leave you trapped there. At the cross, he bears the sin beneath your demands and your child’s disobedience. In his resurrection, he secures the living hope your authority cannot produce. Speak as a father fastening a coat before a child steps toward the King: Fatherly exhortation points beyond your approval to the God who calls you into his glory. Release the outcome to the King who calls.
