A season to release the wire and leave the snare to God.
The Lord’s servant must not quarrel, but be gentle toward all, able to teach, patient, in gentleness correcting those who oppose him: perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth, and they may recover themselves out of the devil’s snare, having been taken captive by him to his will.
The Lord’s servant must not quarrel. Before your correction reaches the one who opposes you, ask the cold question: is this a rescue or a grip? A quarrel is a rescue with winning in its teeth. Your accuracy sounds like truth, but it dreams of being the latch.
Your false refuge is being right. One more precise sentence, you believe, will cut the wire. But the verse stops you with a bare word: 'perhaps God may give them repentance.' Perhaps is a space God reserves. Patience is the hand that waits while you want to pull. The snare is loosened by God’s hand, not by your argument. Pull harder and the loop simply finds the neck of the one you love.
The full knowledge of the truth is not an article; it is a Person. When the opposition nailed him wide, he gave no comeback, only That gentleness. Then God emptied the grave. A repentance that snaps the devil’s snare is a resurrection power, not a rhetorical one. Christ has done the precise work you cannot.
So keep correcting, but with the grammar of the risen. Speak the truth gently and wait patiently while God’s 'perhaps' still breaths. Will you leave the snare to the hand that opened the grave and keep your hand for love alone?
The snare is loosened by God’s hand, not by your argument.
Risen Lord, loosen my grip and do the releasing work that is yours.
