For the parent praying for repentance and life when a loved one keeps turning away.

“Why will you die?” Ezekiel places death before the sinner as a question, then calls for turning from transgression. Does your concern for a prodigal loved one now hide a demand that repentance happen on your terms? You may want life for them, yet still measure hope by visible change. That is the condition: love has become watchful control.

Your false refuge is the perfect message, a hand trying to sweep another person’s ruin from the doorway. You keep refining the warning, believing the right sentence can make someone cast away sin. But Ezekiel’s logic does not give you that power. A message can tell the truth; it cannot give a new heart or make life.

God’s desire is clear: he takes no pleasure in death. At the cross, Christ bears the judgment that transgression deserves. In his resurrection, he stands as the Lord of life. By his indwelling Spirit, he gives the new heart repentance requires. God’s desire for repentance summons the sinner away from ruin and toward life in Christ. Ask Christ for that turning, and refuse to make your message a lever.
