For the single heart that fails
Nevertheless, I am continually with you. You have held my right hand. You will guide me with your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom do I have in heaven? There is no one on earth whom I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Your flesh and your heart fail—so what do you reach for? In the long quiet of singleness, you might think the failure is the problem. You wait for a person to come and be the hand that steadies you.
That is the false refuge: a future spouse as your portion. You tell yourself if only someone held your hand, your heart would stop failing. But the verse says God has already held your right hand. Your hand is not waiting to be taken; it is already taken.
On the cross, Christ's heart failed so yours could be held forever. He did not give you a promise of a spouse; He gave you Himself as your portion. When your flesh fails, the Spirit inside you is the strength of your heart—not a future, not a person, but the present God. Will you receive the portion that is already yours, and let the hand that holds you be enough?
Your hand is not waiting to be taken; it is already taken.
Lord, teach me to want the hand that already holds me.
