For the season when singleness makes belonging feel uncertain.

For you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring and heirs according to promise.
Galatians 3:26–29

“If you are Christ’s”—is that your settled identity, or do you still wait for a spouse’s choosing to tell you who you are? The verse does not place your belonging in a future relationship. Through faith in Christ, it names you a child of God.

That waiting reveals a false refuge: being wanted by a spouse. You have made another person’s desire the proof of your worth. The verse strips status of final authority. Jew, Greek, slave, free, male, female do not divide the one people in Christ. A plain garment bears no rank label once you have put on Christ.

Christ’s work does more than correct your self-description. In baptism, you are joined to Christ; his death judges the claim that marriage can make you whole, and his resurrection grounds your identity as God’s child. You are not an outsider hoping to inherit later. If you are Christ’s, you are Abraham’s offspring and heir according to promise. Marital status cannot outrank your kinship in Christ. Will you receive your place in Christ before demanding that singleness explain your worth?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, keep me from seeking a spouse’s choosing as proof that I belong. By your cross and resurrection, teach me to live as God’s child and heir, whose kinship is in you. Amen.
