For the worker whose effort feels fragile and whose hands need a firmer foundation.

When you ask the Lord to establish the work of your hands, what are you really asking? The request exposes your limits. Your hands can build, answer, repair, teach, and serve, yet they cannot make their work lasting. You keep reaching for one false refuge: measurable success. A completed project, approving notice, or larger number becomes your substitute foundation.

The psalm places your hands under God's favor and asks him to make their work stand. You are not merely tired; you are trying to secure yourself through what you produce. That is why rest feels dangerous and small results feel like judgment. Productivity is a false foundation: it bears weight briefly, then cracks beneath the soul.

God's favor is not earned by a stronger performance. In Christ, the favor you cannot manufacture comes through the cross, where your guilt is answered, and through the risen Christ, who intercedes for you now. He does not promise that every task will succeed. He gives firmer ground than outcomes: your standing before God. Ask him to establish what your hands do, then release the demand that it establish you. Will you place today's unfinished work on Christ's foundation?
